Please take a moment to read through these notes. Your stay will be more enjoyable with the little mysteries explained.
The Cottage was built in 1893 and the architect was Prof. Eleazer B. Homer (head of the Rhode Island School of Design) whose Spartan visage watches you from the walls of the great room.
He and the yellow cat have kept the Cottage safe and tidy for over one hundred years. Please introduce yourselves, you will find him a charming listener.
Looking toward the water you will see Steve and Nancy Homer’s house. It is called the “Shore Cottage” and way to the right is their rental (by the week) guest cottage, called the “Studio”. Steve is the waterfront director and if you wish to use the pier, please check-in with him first – 244 3794. If you and your family want to charter a boat during your stay, you can make arrangements with Steve for moorings, dinghies and accommodations along side the float. Manset Yacht Services, 244 4040 has 18’, 20’ and 22’ foot powerboats for ½ day, full day and weeklong charters. Mansell Boat, 244 5625 has Bullseyes and Rhodes 19 and powerboats for charter as well. The brochures are included in this brief, however please call for current rates and availability.
To the west, and across your parking area is Dick and Rocky Homer’s House. It is called the The Birches Bed & Breakfast, however we call it “The Big House”. Dick and Rocky and their daughter, Susi are your hosts. We encourage you to come up anytime for a visit or if you have questions. The door is always open.
To the north, and up the hill at 48 Fernald Point Road is the house Dick designed for his sister, Connie called “Seawatch” and her son, Christopher is now the owner. The house is on the market and if you are interested, please contact Carol Fernald, at the Swan Agency for a walk through – 276 5080. The seven and one half acres we occupy is called “The Birches”. You are free to wander down to the water via the path in front. There are stairs to the beach to the far left of Steve and Nancy’s.
